IDF military intelligence chief says IDF killed two-thirds of Oct. 7 infiltrators

Situation Overview

On 5 October, Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, head of the IDF’s Military Intelligence, said during a security cabinet meeting that the IDF has killed two-thirds of the terrorists who infiltrated Israel on 7 October, with about 2,000 still remaining. Binder’s remarks were attributed to sources and linked to the IDF’s assessment of the Oct. 7 infiltration by Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz el-Deen al-Qassam Brigades. The statement was made in the context of ongoing IDF operations against militants in Gaza and the broader Israel-Gaza conflict. On 1 October, the IDF said two terrorists who invaded Israel on 7 October, including one who took hostages, were killed in strikes.

Geopolitical Implications

  1. 01

The IDF’s stated remaining figure suggests continued counter-infiltration and sustained operations tied to the 7 October attack.

  2. 02

Public intelligence assessments delivered to Israel’s security cabinet indicate ongoing high-level focus on dismantling militant remnants in the conflict’s aftermath.
