Ukrainian forces report ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv and drone attack on Kharkiv

Situation Overview

On 12 October at about 22:10, Ukrainian forces reported that an attacker struck several areas of Kyiv with, preliminarily, six ballistic missiles, with ballistic targets detected by radar during the attack. The same report said there was no information about missile launches from the attacker’s territory at the time, and that the reasons were being established. It also said the attacker hit Kharkiv with nine S-8000 “Banderol” loitering munitions. The next confirmed items to watch are the publication of further details in the morning update and any follow-up information on launch locations and the causes of the strikes.

Geopolitical Implications

  1. 01

The reported use of both ballistic missiles and loitering munitions underscores sustained strike capability against major Ukrainian cities.

  2. 02

Unclear launch details and ongoing verification suggest continued uncertainty in attribution and operational patterns in the near term.
