Russia strikes Dnipro bridge in Zaporizhzhia, injuring five including Red Cross staff

Situation Overview

On 6 October, Russian forces struck a bridge over the Dnipro River in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, according to Mykhailo Semikin, head of the Zaporizhzhia regional military administration. The bridge was damaged and traffic was shut down. Semikin said five people were injured in the strike, including two Red Cross staff members. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service (SES) also reported a drone strike on a nine-storey residential building in Zaporizhzhia during a Russian attack, but the cluster provides no further details on casualties from that incident. The next concrete development reported in the cluster is the continued closure of the damaged bridge to traffic, pending assessment and repairs.

Geopolitical Implications

  1. 01

The strike targets transport infrastructure in a contested Ukrainian region, reinforcing pressure on civilian mobility and emergency response capacity.

  2. 02
