On 7 October, Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, said Russian attacks have killed 121 people in border communities of Ukraine’s Sumy region since the beginning of 2026. Hryhorov said the body of a person killed in a Russian strike the previous day was evacuated on 6 October from the Svesa community in Shostka district. He added that the highest number of civilian deaths was recorded in border communities across Shostka and Sumy districts, including Seredyna-Buda, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Mykolayivka, Bilopillia and Hlukhiv. Hryhorov said more than 34,000 people, including 436 children, still remain in areas where mandatory evacuation has been announced.
