Ukrainian air defences intercepted 309 Russian targets in overnight missile and drone attack

Situation Overview

On the night of 3 November (from 18:00 on 2 November), Russian forces launched a combined strike that included Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and Zircon anti-ship missiles from areas in Rostov, Voronezh and Kursk regions, Russia, according to the report. The same account says the attack also included 59 air- and ground-launched cruise missiles (X-101/X-59/X-69 and Iskander-K) from Vologda, Orenburg and Oryol regions, and 289 strike drones of the Shahed type (including 120 jet-powered), Gerbera drones and “Parody” drone decoys. Ukrainian air defences reportedly intercepted or suppressed 309 targets in total, without providing further details on locations, damage, or casualties.

Geopolitical Implications

  1. 01

Sustained large-scale use of mixed missile and drone salvos underscores the continuing pressure on Ukrainian air defences.

  2. 02

The variety of weapon types named in the report suggests an emphasis on saturating defences with both cruise missiles and large drone numbers.
