Ukraine police arrest 17-year-old accused of poisoning Ukrainian soldiers for Russia

Situation Overview

On 23 October 2026, Ukrainian police arrested a 17-year-old woman suspected of helping Russian security services poison Ukrainian soldiers, after two soldiers died of poisoning in the Zhytomyr region. Police said the suspect prepared lethal substances and sent them to Ukrainian military personnel she contacted via Telegram, after following instructions from a Russian handler in exchange for at least 5,000 hryvnia (about €100). The packages were presented as “free medicines” and recipients were allegedly asked to take the capsules on camera; police said the capsules contained a lethal dose of methadone. Police said investigators identified other intended recipients of the packages and prevented four additional murders in Ukraine. The case was described as suspected complicity in premeditated murder of two people as part of a prearranged plan.
